Leicestershire Sinfonia

A rich history

The orchestra was founded in 2006 by Matthew Lynch who lived in Leicester and was studying conducting at the Royal Northern College of Music.
Matt is now one of the most sought after young conductors and we are immensely proud to have started him on his illustrious career. Following Matt we were conducted by Theo Lester, who was also a student at the time. We are very keen to support young musicians.
We have performed a wide range of classical music, from large symphonies to chamber works. The orchestra has been associated with and supported by St Philips Church throughout. We now specialise in smaller scale classical repertoire and try to feature the works of female composers who are less well known, while still making our concerts fun and approachable.
We always need more violins and violas – the standard needed is probably Grade 6 and above but if you haven’t ever done any exams (or not recently) contact us anyway and give us a try. There is no formal audition process. Subs are £15 a term.
We can offer the orchestra (or part of it) for events and we have recently performed for the Leicester Hospitals Charity. We have a thriving wind chamber music section.
